Little Bodies, Big Vulnerabilities: An Intro to Pediatric Injury Biomechanics
Thursday, October 23, 2025, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM PST
Category: Webinars

The application of biomechanical analysis to pediatric individuals is an important field of study. Pediatric individuals range in age from infants to people up to 21 years of age. Biomechanical analysis of pediatric individuals differs from that of adults in that the analysis cannot simply assume that they are scaled-down versions of adults. Material properties of various regions of the body as well as differences in body proportions between pediatric individuals and adults can affect the outcome of a biomechanical analysis. This presentation will provide a general overview of pediatric biomechanics, information on the growth and development of humans from infancy to adulthood, and present a variety of case studies that demonstrate the importance of considering pediatric differences when conducting a biomechanical analysis.
